Fintech UX Design · Product Design Studio

Fintech UX design that earns trust and moves the numbers.

Senior-led product design for banking, payments, investing, and lending products. From onboarding and funding to dashboards and transaction flows — designed to lift activation, retention, and revenue.

15+ years across Onfleet, Blue Origin, Ancestry, and Carta — now helping small businesses turn design into measurable growth.

What I design for fintech products

A senior product designer who knows the realities of regulated, money-moving products — and how small UX decisions compound into real business outcomes.

Onboarding, KYC & funding flows

Account opening, identity verification, and first-deposit flows redesigned to cut abandonment — the highest-leverage moment in any fintech product.

Trust, security & compliance UX

Surfacing the right signals at the right time so regulated, money-moving flows feel safe — without burying users in disclosures or friction.

Dashboards & data visualization

Balances, portfolios, transactions, and analytics made legible at a glance, so users understand their money instead of decoding it.

Transaction & payment flows

Transfers, payments, and money movement designed for confidence and zero costly errors — clear confirmations, recoverable mistakes, fewer support tickets.

Activation & retention design

The path from sign-up to habitual use, mapped and rebuilt — so more users hit the “aha” moment and keep coming back.

Design systems for fintech teams

Scalable component libraries and patterns (as built for Blue Origin and Carta-scale teams) that keep a fast-moving product consistent and compliant.

How we work together

A focused, senior-led process that moves fast — whether it's a two-week audit or an ongoing design partnership.

Onfleet

Delivery logistics SaaS · Lead Product Designer · 2015–2018

Making a genuinely complex product feel simple and intuitive.

Last-mile delivery is operationally dense — dispatchers, drivers, and end customers all need different views of the same moving reality.

Designed and scaled the full product suite — driver app, dispatch dashboard, end-user tracking, and business analytics — and shipped premium add-ons from 0 to 1 that opened new revenue streams.

Outcome

Helped position Onfleet as the most user-friendly delivery platform on the market — fueling 15× valuation growth and a 35% lift in NPS.

Ivan helped build Onfleet from the ground up, positioning Onfleet as the most user-friendly, well-designed delivery software on the market. He found ways to overcome the significant challenge of making a complex product seem simple and intuitive.

Ancestry

Consumer genomics · Experience Designer · 2018–2019

Designed Ancestry DNA Traits from 0 to 1 and redesigned Family Search around a more modern, approachable experience.

Drove Ancestry DNA to the #1 spot on Amazon and tripled holiday-week web traffic.

Airbrake @ Rackspace

Developer tools · Product Designer · 2012–2015

Design as a retention lever, not a coat of paint.

Airbrake's error-monitoring product was losing customers to confusion and friction in the core workflow.

Redesigned Airbrake end-to-end with a sharp focus on clarity, daily-use ergonomics, and the moments that made developers churn.

Outcome

Cut churn by 24% and, alongside leadership, drove 30% year-over-year revenue growth across three years.

Fintech UX design FAQ

Quick answers on what fintech UX design is, why it matters, and how we'd work together.

What is fintech UX design?

Fintech UX design is product design specialized for financial products — banking, payments, investing, lending, and money-movement tools. It balances trust, security, and regulatory constraints with the clarity and ease users expect, because in fintech a confusing flow doesn't just frustrate users, it costs money and erodes trust.

Why does fintech need specialized UX?

Financial products carry higher stakes — real money, sensitive data, KYC and compliance requirements, and users who abandon instantly when they feel unsure. Small UX improvements in onboarding, funding, and transaction flows compound directly into activation, retention, and revenue.

Who runs the design work?

Ivan Tolmachev directly — a product designer with 15+ years scaling products at Onfleet, Blue Origin, Ancestry, and Carta. Senior design from day one, not a junior hand-off.

What does a fintech UX engagement include?

It depends on your stage — from a focused UX audit of your existing product, to redesigning a specific flow like onboarding or funding, to ongoing product design partnership. Every engagement is senior-led and grounded in your real metrics.

How do you handle compliance and trust requirements?

Compliance and trust are designed in, not bolted on. Disclosures, verification, and security signals are woven into flows so they build confidence rather than friction — drawing on experience designing for regulated fintech and aerospace environments.

How quickly can we start seeing results?

A fixed-scope UX audit runs in about two weeks and gives you prioritized, ship-ready fixes. From there, focused flow redesigns and a fuller engagement build on that momentum.
